For a fantastic day trip (or you could even spend the night) - head to Santa Barbara's State Street. It's a very pedestrian friendly area, made for strolling and taking in a nice summer day. Walk down to the beach and wharf, have fish tacos at Wahoo's (seriously - if you've never had fish tacos they're amazing!), hunt for unique items in any number of the boutique shops downtown or just window shop and enjoy the view.

We went several times while stationed at Vandenberg, could not get enough of State Street. Very fun day trip!
