"On Base Living in China Lake"

Living on base in China Lake is by far the best way to go! BAH ranges are not normally alligned with the rental market in Ridgecrest, and the rentals are usually much higher out in town. There are also very few to choose from most of the time. The waiting list here in China Lake can vary, so as soon as you are detatched from your current location get on the waiting list for "on base housing" asap! Even if there is not a home available when you get here, you will be reimbursed for moving on base once a house comes open. We were told 2 years to wait and a house came open within months, so never be too discouraged. We are saving over $1000 a month by living on base, compared to the house we were renting in town. The homes are older here but the community feel is invaluable, especially in such a tiny town like Ridgecrest. Everyone comes out in the afternoons and weekends for happy hour, and play dates at the park. There are dozens of shaded parks on base for kids, and the back yards are very spacious for animals. The clubhouses are great for community events and group meetings like bible studies and crafting. There are also a ton of activities for families and kids here on base, like music and art classes that are free! The pool is also essential in the unbearable dry heat in the summer, so it's nice to be super close. All in all...if you have to live here, living on base seems to be the way to go, if possible. The Lincoln Military Housing office here is normally very accomodating and helpful, and the people are the best part about living here for sure.

  • Recommendations: The Estates Neighborhood is a very nice, newer, neighborhood in Ridgecrest. It has its own park and is very nicely taken care of and safe. Crossroads Community Church is an awesome church here in town if you're looking for a contemporary, non-denominational Christian church. Great Pastor and Community feel!
