Living in Base housing at Mayport naval base was by far our favorite. We lived on the beach and the views were amazing. This community is so family friendly and there to help anyone in need. I definitely miss living there now that we are overseas. It’s also n ice to live just a few mins from the bank, gas station, post office and Work. Great place to live.

"Naval Station Mayport Base Housing"
It is amazing! I am 100% serious when I say that Mayport's base housing starts right on the Atlantic Ocean. Now of course only a select few Admirals, Captains, and job specific houses are located ocean front but the rest of the on base housing is all within walking distance to the Atlantic Ocean. Lovely!

"Bennett Shores West Duplex"
The West end of housing is for enlisted, they are duplexes. Some are "renovated" which means you get a garage and laminate wood floors. The housing will take full BAH for renovated. Overall, it's a decent place to live because of the proximity to the beach. It's within walking distance along with other amenities on base. Traffic getting on base to get to the homes can sometimes be backed up at certain times. But not enough to ruin the idea of being on base. Maintenance can be slow and does a lot of "patch" work. But they have always been super nice and usually solves whatever issues you call for. The grass is cut for you and there are no fences.

"Bennet Shores West"
These houses are for E1 and above and are on base. They are duplexes. I have had a good experience with the house I am in. They were built in the 60s and they do show their age. Its a good house to start out in. Would not recommend for a family with more than 2 children since they are pretty small. It is a mile walk from the beach and bowling ally. A mini Nex, the health clinic, and auto shop is on the next street. Its a pretty base, great neighborhood. Only complaint are the bugs and spiders. We have plumbing issues, sometimes electricity goes out, but maintenance is very quick to fix.

"Live on Base & Live at the Beach"
I love the base housing at NS Mayport. If I could do it over again I would have pushed harder and made my husband love it too. I love the community feel. I love the 2 minute commute to work. I love the beach as your backyard! Now the houses are beautiful and new! I dont' love the elementary school. I would use the magnet system and send my child to a different elementary school than Finegan. http://www.nsmayporthomes.com/
