"New Gannam Living"

We lived in the New Gannam neighborhood, on Hunter Army Airfield, for three plus years. The neighborhood is very well organized and very close to all of the on post amenities. The PX, commissary, outdoor pool, on post hotel, outdoor spray park, CDC's, and literally every useful building, including many offices and hangers, are within walking distance of this neighborhood. There are playgrounds on every street, and the main community building, where Balfour Beatty holds all of it's seasonal events, is also within a short walk. There are wonderful bike paths that are accessible nearby, and there are two gates on opposite sides of the neighborhood, for quick access to all of the shopping and businesses outside of the gate. Overall, we found the three bedroom unit to be very spacious, with the master bedroom being almost too large for us to even fill. Closet space is the rooms are spacious and all three bathrooms are large and nicely organized. Balfour Beatty and their maintenance team were always attentive and easy to work with, when needed. Overall, I highly recommend on post living and hope to one day be able to come back.

Pros Cons
  1. Size of home is large
  2. proximity to shopping
  3. Avoid traffic outside of post to get to work
  4. LOTS of children in these neighborhoods, which is great for families
  1. Size of yard is small
  2. Not all of the units that have upper decks are covered, so it's almost unbearable to use them in the summer
  3. Sand spurs are all over the grass on post, and they hurt

"Military Community Hunter Army Airfield"

We just got here in Savannah Hunter AAF, GA in August and are just loving it!! The military houses are almost brand new, we are the second family. The playgrounds are clean and safe for any age. The base is right in the city and you have lots of places to go to, shopping, downtown Savannah with its Historic museums and River walk. The beach is just 30 minutes away and the water is sooo warm! The community is right by the Commissary and the PX. Really a very good experience!

Pros Cons
  1. Elementary School is connected to the post.
  2. Almost brand new housing.
  3. Two story houses with 3-4 bedrooms.
  4. Super safe and pet friendly.
  1. Like in every place, be aware of sorroundings

Local Favorites

  • Happy Hour Spot: Wet Willies and others downtown.
