Coast Guard New Orleans: NAS JRB Belle Chasse

"Best Schools, Low Crime"
We live here on the NAS JRB Base and love it. The area is called Belle Chasse and it's awesome! I love that everything is so close. There is a NEX and Commissary on base. Lost of military families live on North Shore and it's great, but it can be a long commute to NAS Belle Chasse. It's important to ask yourself if you can handle a 45 min+ commute. The base has it all with good schools and low crime. You are close to New Orleans without having to be near the crime. The houses here on base are small but the community is fantastic. There's a good charter school right here on base (Belle Chasse Academy, K-8), or the primary school out in town is very good too.

"Time at Belle Chasse"
I lived here from 2002-2005, this was my greatest base housing experience and it was mainly due to my neighbors and the people who lived there. I lived on Yorktown and the units were brand new, I had just moved from NSA Algiers and it was a huge change from Algiers, which was just old and the apartments were run down. Belle Chasse is a beautiful community, my daughter attended the Charter school and it was amazing. She learned so much. There was a track nearby that I would run. This area was safe
