Keesler AFB: Keesler Air Force Base Housing

Living in West Falcon was a great experience. Wish there was more parking but we had. Garage which is almost impossible off base. Maintenance was super quick and office staff was nice. Really loved we had a fenced backyard for our puppy.

Aweful! Hunt management company is a nightmare. Mold, termites, roof leaks, and other repairs all done half way, cheap and then ignored when asked to be finished. They don’t care about tenants must go up through chain of command before they will address your issues. Constant internet problems due to poorly laid and run wires (both cable and att services). Poor humidity control in home and must keep it at 68 degrees in the summer because of termite swarms. Save yourself a lot of stress and rent or buy off base. Sure, the pictures look good and there is a ton of space and storage, but it is NOT a healthy environment for your family. Many family in lawsuits due to mold toxicity health problems.

After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, base housing was rebuilt quick and cheap. Every year since then during the summer about half the houses just in one neighborhood get black mold. This is not “mildew”! Hunt hires cheap contractors to “fix” the issue and it returns again the next year. Highly recommend spending the time to find housing not associated with this company.

This was our first military base living experience. The houses were huge for just the 2 of us. We loved everything about this house. The back yard was a little smaller but since it was so hot we did not spend much time outside. The house we had was located off base but in base housing. It was close to base, restaurants, stores and the beach. Great neighborhoods. And with the housing being duplexes we never heard anything from our attached neighbors.

On-base living is the best deal for your money when you compare age, square footage, and cost. You pay them your BAH and utilities are included, for now. The property management runs pretty much like any apartment complex, but nicer. As far as housing goes you tend to get what you get, 3 kids will get you a 4 bedroom if it is available, if not you can wait or take a 3 bedroom. Others have been told there was no waiting list only to arrive and discover all of the housing was spoken for, by families who were arriving within 60 days, and they would be waiting 2 weeks to a month for a unit to become vacant. I did not get on a waiting list but called often. There were two 4 bedrooms available when I arrived, the one I turn down was another alumni’s only option a week later. Bring a hardcopy of your housing application, they often lose them. They take pretty good care of the homes and allow you to paint the interior walls, you are allowed to leave an accent wall in one of their approved colors upon departure, all of the other walls must be returned to their original state. I had mildew on my powder room ceiling, from my children unsealing the tub upstairs, and they clean it and painted over the stains and resealed the tub. They power washed the gates each fall to get rid of mildew. Mildew is common in these parts because of humidity. A lot of the interior mildew has been linked to improper AC ducts and they are doing renovations in affected units to correct it. They maintain the grounds, but you are responsible for your backyard. Bayridge is the only option for E-7 and up and is the only neighborhood located within base gates. The homes are mostly 3 & 4 bedrooms starting at 1800 sq ft for 3 bedrooms and 2100 sq ft for 4 bedrooms. The single story homes have 2 bathrooms but the 2 stories all have 2.5. All homes have 2 car garages, except the general homes, and have both interior and garage storage areas. Most homes have privacy fencing. The backyards are small unless you have O-6 or E-9 housing. E7 to O-3 are duplexes E-9 and O-4+ are single family homes. The neighborhood is located next to Back Bay and featuring walking trails and docks. It's across the street from the Bay Breeze Community Center which houses the club and golf course. Also across the street is I-81 the bases largest track, and down to road is the Marina Park. Within the neighborhood is the Keesler Community Center which houses the housing office, Hunt Properties office, a resident only gym, multipurpose room, pool and splash pad. There are tot lots and parks located throughout the neighborhood as well as a basketball court and volleyball pit. The School Drop-Off Point is also nearby.
