"First Base"
This is my first base to be stationed at, so understand that this review is from a dorm resident. Despite the occasional harsh weather conditions (including wind chills of -35), there's a great sense of comradery. Because it's such a small base, living here is the equivalent of living in a small town. Everyone looks out for each other and, at least the personnel I work with, makes the stay here less horrible than I was told. Many people say it sucks living here, but it's all on perspective. The only bad thing I dislike about this base is that it's about a 20-30 min from town. So if you want to go party or eat somewhere other than on base, then that drive in unavoidable. Just have to keep an eye on the weather, keep a winter weather survival bag, and phone chargers in the car if you get stuck in a blizzard, and keep friends numbers on the phone so they can come get you. With the right attitude you will love it here. People are very friendly, community is active, and locals are nice.
