The Reid Park and and Reid Park Zoo are a lot of fun for families and kids. The Park itself has a large running/walking track (3 miles), a toddler play area and playgrounds for older children, two duck ponds, a rose garden, and a kiddie train (tickets $3) that tours from the front of the zoo, around a duck pond, and back again. There are large grassy spaces for picnics, playing frisbee, etc. The Reid Park Zoo (annual military membership $48) is a great place to take the kids. It's pretty expansive and has a brand new elephant exhibit. You can also feed the giraffes each day at 10am. My son loves it!
