Middletown was a great area that is near all first,second, and third beaches. We actually lived in our RV for the summer and were only a mile away from the beach. My friends and I trained for our half marathon in the neighborhoods between Middletown and Newport since they are not that big and super close. Running by the mansions and Ocean Drive doesn't hurt either. We moved to Portsmouth for the winter and it is not bad either just a short drive into Middletown/Newport. My daughter isn't in school yet but talking to other families the consensus was Portsmouth had the better schools in the area. Lots of families go to the Y in the area as the base gym doesn't have daycare. I chose the Newport Athletic Club and can not say enough great things about their day care. Plus they offer a lot more classes with your membership ($63/month).
