Probably the most desirable neighborhood in Norfolk. It is the only pedestrian friendly area that allows one to walk to a fabulous grocery store (Harris Teeter), the library, museums, many excellent restaurants, coffee shops, parks, the waterfront etc.
Families drive in from all over to send their kids to the preschools in Ghent. First Pres and GUMP are the top in the area.
The commute to Norfolk Naval Station is great just about 20 minutes in the worst traffic.
Within Ghent is Ghent Square which is a great neighborhood that includes membership to a pool and tennis courts.
Next to Ghent is West Ghent which has larger lots and very little commercial business. Also very charming.
This is an amazing area with so much to do and so convienent. The Virginia zoo is a 7 minute drive away and wonderful for kids and the mall is a 7 minute drive away too. It has the best shopping in Hampton Roads. The rental market moves fast here but it is worth the hunt. Very fun lifestyle.

- Recommendations: You won't be sitting at home while he is deployed. You'll be taking the kids to ballet lessons, art classes, the zoo, hitting great lunch spots, grabbing drinks, walking the historical Hague, taking the dog to the dog park, catching performances at the Harrison, watching movies and shopping from Pottery Barn and Gymboree at MacArthur. And when he gets home, you can watching the fireworks from the Hague waterfront, spend the day at the biannual Stockley Gardens Arts Festival, run the Chkd fun run and so much more.
