I highly recommend Alamo Ranch neighborhood. It is master planned with tons of amenities (pool, playgrounds, etc). It's super nice and everyone is so friendly! Tons of military live on the NW side of town by Seaworld and in Alamo Ranch. There is tons to do in they area like SeaWorld, Six Flags, Geronimo Park, Medina Lake. It's an easy commute to Lackland AFB. Oh and did I mention there is an HEB grocery store!!
