Mandarin: Off Base Area of Town

"Great Area. Fine Commute."

We loved living in Mandarin. There is a lot around, especially food and shopping. We lived on a quiet side street between Old St. Augustine and San Jose. We felt very safe. It almost feels like a rural area inside a suburban area. There were chickens, horses, and goats just down the road. We did not have school-age children, but the schools seem nice in this area compared to other areas. The commute to NAS JAX is about 20 minutes without traffic and rush hour traffic goes the opposite direction (except on Roosevelt). The biggest downside is having to cross the Buckman Bridge. If there is bad traffic due to an accident or construction, the only other way across the St. John's River is going all the way downtown or south to Green Cove Springs. It's not ideal. I worked across the bridge as well and only had issues 3 or 4 times in the 3 years we lived there. There are a lot of nice parks in the Mandarin area, including our favorites Palmetto Leaves Regional Park and Losco Regional Park.

"Safe and Friendly"

Mandarin is an excellent area of town to live! Small and quiet streets that are tucked away for housing options (but also pricier), and friendly neighbors. Plenty of restaurants nearby including The Loop, Outback, Pizza Bella, and Dickey's BBQ. Lots of parks and walking trails- prefect for runners and families looking for playgrounds!

We love living in Mandarin because of its central location. About 20 minutes to NAS Jax and 25 to the beach. Very family friendly. Safe, quiet, many parks, libraries, and great schools in the area.
