"Small, tidy homes and kids playing in the yard."
Kettering is a sprawling suburb of Dayton, consisting of both working-class and elite homes. All homes, with some exceptions, were built between 1945-1960. What makes Kettering interesting is that no matter the class or income, homes and gardens are kept neat and tidy, and local restaurants and businesses are multi-generational and well-visited.
The part where we live is on the edge of Dayton City Limits. Homes are small (800 square feet), but well-maintained and old enough to have character. It is safe, and kids play freely. There are many trick or treaters of all ages wearing homemade costumes.
Schools are well-thought-of. Children can generally walk (with their parents) to elementary schools.
The BEST part of Kettering is access to the Kettering Rec Center, a beautiful facility with a gym, exercise classes, child drop-off, an ice rink, walking trails, and pool. There are also sports lessons and sports leagues.
Trash, recycling, yard debris pickup.
10-15 mins to base.
