Meredith Heights: Off Base Neighborhood/Subdivision

"Review of neighborhood in Poulsbo, WA"

We owned a home in Meredith Heights, and lived there for about 5 years. There were very few active duty families in the neighborhood at the time, but quite a few DOD civilians. It was a brand new neighborhood, so most people had children. Overall, it was pretty friendly. I liked that it was right next to Raab park, where there was a nice off leash area for dogs. Although it is in walking distance to all schools, it was too yucky outside most of the time to actually do it! It's right up the hill from historic downtown Poulsbo, and close to a new shopping complex where there is a Super Walmart and Home Depot. There is also a great store called Central Market that is $$$, but very popular. I do want to add that although we were happy with the school at the time (elementary aged children) I would NOT pick this area with High School and Middle School aged children. Just do careful research comparing North Kitsap and Central Kitsap Schools side by side. There is not as much support for transitioning military students in North Kitsap. At the time this didn't matter much to me because all of my family was close by, and I didn't realize the importance. The commute to Bremerton where my husband was stationed was a pain although he managed. Bangor is much closer.
