Bolling AFB Joint Base Anacostia: Balfour Beatty Privatized Housing

We stayed for one year and then we bolted out of there. We couldnt leave fast enough. We had a 4 bedroom apartment on the second floor. 2 of our bathrooms had water damage from the bathrooms above us. It's super loud. You can hear everything from your neighbors. Our best door neighbors were civilians and they frequently had domestic issues. The cops were there a lot. I couldnt open our windows because people would smoke weed on the stairs and our place would smell so bad. People let their dogs run around without leashes, no one picked up after their dog, and the trash bags never made it into the dumpster. People would literally walk by it and just throw their trash on the ground. I asked if we could move into a townhome. We were told we could and it wouldn't be any extra with the amount of BAH I was giving them. I went to sign the lease in the office for the new place and asked (for the third time) if my BAH covered the cost. The woman said "no. It will be an extra 500 a month". I refused to sign. I almost signed a year lease for a place I could not afford, glad I asked again. The whole place was shady the entire time we lived there.

This housing is privatized military housing, i.e. they take your BAH and you pay minimal utilities. They have townhomes for E-6 and above and apartments for all ranks. They recently have not been able to fill apartments to civilians have been allowed in. It is very close to Walter Reed.
