Coast Guard Portsmouth VA: Fort Story Housing

My family's excitement to move here was short lived. Would not recommend this housing. Really dislike them taking all of our BAH and having to also pay electric bills for homes that were hard to cool and heat. Base is very inconveniently located to a lot of places. Management office could actually enforce their own rules. Is it really that hard to have residents clean up after their dogs in their yards? Schools seems to be rated well, but I heard a lot of complaints about bus safety when picking up kids. Bus crowding, etc.

Good: Beach in the summer

Cons: All BAH is taken & most have to pay for electricity unless able to keep under some crazy baseline. First glance the homes look nice but construction is cheap. Walls are thin. Residents use multiple space heaters in winter to keep warm. Scary!

Management office: Here's an example-In the fall a major hurricane was charting for a direct hit until last minute. Office offered 3 cheap unfilled sandbags for pick up. You had to go to the beach to fill them up. Not even 4 bags to use two at each door, but 3?

Maintenance comes fairly quickly but attitude from office when called is very unprofessional & repairs are so so

Office acts concerned about vandalism & other crimes & request residents' help but when call of concern is made, brush off. They could install more lighting for safety, etc. Any issue with mold, etc. forget about resolution. Move out cleaning list unreal-trying to force you to pay. No community room, no basketball court for kids
