The housing office knows they have the upper hand with military families and take advantage of it. I was told that if I wanted base housing that I have to sign the lease without seeing the property. Recommend off base housing.

Historic housing, with all the perks and drawbacks of such. The privatized housing office is responsive to issues. The strangest thing about these homes is that your basement will be below sea level, aka prone to flooding. If you're storing items in your basement, recommend you raise them on pallets or concrete blocks. We had water in our basement several times during the two years we were here, and our neighbors had the same experience. Beautiful brick home, spacious, with fireplace. Can be drafty and difficult to keep warm in winter. Very quiet base on the evenings and weekends, other than jet noise since runway is in close proximity. Wonderful running/walking trail right along the water and very family friendly!

Some of the homes might be a bit older, but are very nice. Its quiet and you arnt far from grocery stores, restaurants and parks. The base is also 5 mins away if you would like to access the commissary as well.

Certainly, for convenience, I'd recommend the on-base housing here instead of living off base, but bear in mind that there's an off-base "base housing," too. There are two different sections of housing, one on the main Langley base (back along the water, by the tall billeting tower near the gun range) and then the other one, which is really in town and probably 20 minutes from the main base. That housing I did not find convenient for rush hour traffic. Maybe if you're working shift and can avoid the congestion, you're OK. The LTA housing (lighter than air, which comes from way back when they had the LTA crafts there) is incredibly old. In fact, they maintain it to those historical standards. Ours had a fireplace, two floors, 3 bedrooms, a large kitchen, and a parking space behind the house. There was a garage, too, but not for the car. There is street parking, but it's not assigned. When TMO is there, though, the whole street can be blocked because some are one-lane, one-way, roads.
Langley has the hospital, a veterinary clinic, a fitness center, a golf course, a library, a commissary, a PX, several services offices (though they're joint with Eustis, so they may have combined since we PCSd). The other housing area has a pool, which the LTA residents can also use; you just get a pass in the office.
